Hot dogs are training treats.
Like a little candy bar.
For alligators at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor, it’s THE treat that will convince alligators to back up and sit pretty.
Michael Womer, aka the Gator Crusader, is their trainer.
On Saturday, he will be demonstrating how he trains the rescued and rehomed gators at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor.
He even uses a little clicker, like for a puppy.
“It’s a basic way of saying good job,” said Womer
Training helps these rescued gators get doctor checkups.
Target training is even more specific for the gators.
Womer rewards gators who engage his light saber with their snout.
Also yes, the one-handed alligator in light saber training- his name is Luke.
“Because I like to make alligators fun,” said Womer.
That’s especially for little kids- adding a little flair to make his educational talks more engaging.
Womer’s goals align with those of the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor.
They want to educate people about animal conservation and let people experience a little bit of their life.
What do alligators get for their cake?
Raw ground beef on a silver tray.
