"Flowers have always been important in my life," she said.

Her grandfather sold flowers and she's even named after one, the delphinium.

"I have very vivid memories as a child with flowers and it just hung on all these years," Kosfeld said.

So for the past 7 1/2 years, she's put her flower power to good use by volunteering at Random Acts of Flowers Tampa Bay.

The non-profit organization takes donated flowers and then volunteers turn them into bouquets that are handed out to people who need their spirits lifted or a boost.

"We do between 250-300 bouquets each week to different places," said Monica Kok, RAF Tampa Bay program director. "They go to different places like nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, cancer centers."

Volunteers put the bouquets together at a workshop in Dunedin.

When the pandemic first started and things were in lockdown, the workshop had to be closed temporarily.

Kosfeld said it was tough because making flowers for people brings her joy.

"Oh it was very difficult. It was dreadful," she said.

But now, things are back to normal with about 75 volunteers working reguarly to both make and deliver bouquets.

Kosfeld is blooming again.

"It's good for your heart to do this. Who doesn't like flowers? It makes people happy," she said.

She blesses every single bouquet she puts together.

"Here's my prayer card," she said showing us a small white card with the word "Prayer" written on it. "As I'm doing it and taking things apart, I just pray that they will bring joy to the people who receive them."

Each arrangement gets a personalized, signed card and off they go.

A delivery van is used to carry them to their destinations in the community.

Volunteers said it makes them feel good to know they are bringing flowers that will brighten someone's day.

The sentiment behind the bouquets is just as sweet as the flowers themselves.

Random Acts of Flowers Tampa Bay is always looking for flower and vase donations.
