PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - Days before the CoreyStrong Golf Tournament, Michelle Langlois and friends worked hard to get luminarias organized, gift baskets ready, and posters printed.
“These are the ten warriors that Corey Strong actually supports," said Langois, pointing to ten colored luminarias. "So we right now can only help families in the state of Florida. As we grow and increase, we are hoping to be able to expand. So these bags represent the United States, and there are even some in various countries that have reached out and contacted me.”
CoreyStrong Inc. was started after Corey LaFave, Langlois's son died of Ewing Sarcoma. It is a tumor that forms in bone or soft tissue.
"Sadly, many of the cases of Ewing ends in fatality," said Langlois.
Corey passed just nine months after diagnosis.
"So Corey had been in pain for a long time,” said Langlois, before she said he was diagnosed.
The foundation now helps Ewing Sarcoma patients here in Florida, but also is intended to bring awareness to the disease.
“Only four percent of the billions of dollars in cancer research goes to pediatric cancer," said Langlois.
One-hundred percent of the profit on Saturday will go to patients here in Florida. Langlois says, they will take golfers right up until registration at 7:30 a.m.
The tournament is taking place at the Mainlands Golf Course in Pinellas Park. Here's how you can register ahead of time.
