ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg celebrated history being made Tuesday night. Jabari Reed-Diop, 22, had already captured this historic election in art commissioned by the Welch Campaign.

“[Ken Welch] gave me so much freedom on the project. It was so natural,” Jabari said. "It went by so easy.”

Jabari took iconic symbols of St. Pete like Tropicana Field and the sun, giving them life with caricatures.

“As a local, it makes me feel like everything is changing,” he said. “Everything is about to shift so it was him stepping out of the pain, showing that he is bringing a new age of sunshine and Ken Welch.”

He says he hasn't settled on a title for his Ken Welch artwork yet, or has he?

“It's bringing in the sunshine,” Jabari said. “It’s that sigh of relief. It's that feeling that change is happening that change that was supposed to be coming is in effect right now. That sounds like a title to me."
