SPRING HILL, Fla. — Jessica Lee Gracy first started teaching in Sunday School and on missionary trips.

Now a Kindergarten teacher at Deltona Elementary in Hernando County, Gracy is receiving praise for her love of children and family.

“She truly cares about students and works countless hours,” said Deltona Principal Debi Schellabargar. “She gives each child the attention they deserve.”

What You Need To Know

Gracey goes even further than that.

She lays the groundwork for academic success, connecting with her students and partnering their parents.

“It’s not just teaching, but it takes a lot of love and caring,” Gracey said. “I have a wonderful administration who encourages me and supports me to think outside the box and get creative and I try to keep it fun.”

Gracey works hard to help her students fall in love with learning and being available at all hours for parents.

“I’m always available, nights and weekends, and I know I’m really big into the classroom dojo, so I’m constantly communicating, posting pictures.”

And just like at their homes, framed pictures of her kids are posted on the classroom wall.

Her priority is to make them family.

“She’s the type of teacher that every principal dreams of having at their school,” Schellabargar said. “Students love that they get to have her as their teacher and the parents respect her and play a big role in the classroom with the students.”

Mission accomplished.

“I’m really big on classroom family and having parents really involved and having that good relationship with my students,” she said. “So I try to make sure that my parents feel like they’re in the classroom with me.”
