ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Do you remember that story we did last year at the very beginning of the pandemic lockdown about the grandparents of a newborn having to celebrate her arrival from the sidewalk at the hospital? Well, they're at it again.
Monday at 10:59 a.m. Nicholas and Whitney Fox gave birth to Nora, but because of the pandemic, the grandparents had to celebrate her arrival on the streets in front of All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. This should all sound familiar, because last March just when the pandemic was taking hold, they had to do the same thing when Nicolas and Whitney gave birth to their first child Everly.
“We’re feeling good,” said grandfather Charles Fox. “The love, the energy is still there. The excitement is there and if we can bring a little bit of joy and love, that's why I'm doing this out here. I love life and another soul has just come into it.“
So just like last year, Charles packed up his RV and drove it down to Saint Pete from New York to be as close to his new granddaughter as possible. It's hard for any family to be separated during such a blessed event. For Whitney, that separation was a big challenge for her and her husband raising a newborn during the pandemic.
“It’s been tough,” Whitney said. “I mean being new parents and everything with Covid. It's definitely not what we thought it would be like, but we managed and got through it.”
Last year, taking the celebration of their granddaughter's birth to the streets during a deadly pandemic taught us all something about the cycle of life. This time around, Everly and her little sister Nora remind us that love win, even against a pandemic.
“I think this is a great topping if you will, actually coming out of the pandemic,” Charles said. “So you need this. Life has to continue, so here we are.”
The Foxes say they don’t plan to have any more children.
