Clearwater, Fla. — A young Pinellas County artist is being recognized for her talent in what might very well be the start of a long career.

Her work was selected to appear in the fall 2021 edition of “Teen Mosiac Magazine.”

Her painting “Black Magma” is currently on display at the Dunedin Public Library.

“She’s a black woman and I guess she kind of has a super power,” Pearson said of the work of art. “Like a magma kind of super power and that’s why her hair is kind of like magma.”

A new student at the service learning micro-school, principal and founder Jaime Manfra says Mya found her place here pretty much from day one.

“Mya’s one of the few students I’ve seen to just completely open up so quickly in a new environment because, you know, going to a new school is never easy. Especially for teenagers,” Manfra said.

Pearson says her love of art has been life-long, even back in kindergarten. Her sisters Rya, 16, and Uniya, 13 also attend the school.

While still a few years away from college, Pearson plans to pursue a major in digital art.

Pearson’s mother Indy Zimmer is understandably proud.

“I think that whatever she chooses she’s going to be amazing whatever her path,” Zimmer said.
