POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd held a press conference Wednesday morning on several recent deadly crashes being investigated by the sheriff's office, including the fiery crash in Haines City Monday that killed four people.
Three people initially died in the two-vehicle crash Monday night on Lake Hatchineha Road, and a fourth person died overnight Tuesday from the injuries they received.
Two other people have been hospitalized.
In total, the sheriff's office said eight people have been killed in crashes over the last 44 hours.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Monday crash happened just after 12 p.m. near Watkins Road, in an unincorporated part of the city.
Sheriff Grady Judd said deputies responded to reports of a possible abduction in Poinciana. The suspect, identified as Raquelme Villar-Villalona, reportedly fled the scene and was speeding and driving recklessly when he collided with 3 different vehicles.
"It was just someone fleeing from what was reported to us as a possible abduction, and the information still is sketchy because we're putting it together but it was some kind of disturbance up in Poinciana community,” Sheriff Grady Judd explained.
Judd said authorities believe one of the deceased victims in the crash was that suspect.
