ORLANDO, Fla. — Tucked away in the heart of central Florida on acres of old Florida land is a spot that's dedicated to giving exotic animals a sanctuary.
In this week's Florida on a Tankful, we travel to the Exotic Animal Experience in Orlando where we meet an owner that's developed a lifelong passion and love for all the animals that call her ranch home.
Every morning like clockwork, Leslie-Ann Rush starts her morning greeting a few of her friends that call this farm home.
Here on Leslie's farm, she doesn't have your typical animals. She has dozens of different exotic animal species including lemurs and kangaroos.
Leslie grew up on farms her entire life. She later purchased this property in the heart of central Florida, and after years of simply rescuing exotic animals and giving them a home privately, she opened up her little slice of heaven for the public in 2010.
Since opening it to the public, it's grown quite a bit from Leslie owning just a handful of species to having more than 40 that now live on the property.
It's a rewarding experience for Leslie and her team, creating a bond with the animals and giving a meaningful experience to those who visit.
The team loves teaching others about their passion for animals and conservation for creatures that can't be released back into the wild.
It's a natural Florida experience with an animal whisperer who will be sure to put a smile on your face.
The Exotic Animal Experience is open by appointment only. They ask that you call ahead or check out their website.
