State Senator Jeff Brandes has a message for leadership in Tallahassee, if they don't call for a special session to address the issue, that he will try to do it himself. Senator Brandes sent a letter to Senate President Wilton Simpson and House Speaker Chris Sprowls saying that if they are unwilling to call for the special session he will use a Florida statute to go around them.
Under the law, Brandes would have to get 20% of the legislature to file support for a special session with the Department of State. Then, the department would have seven days to poll lawmakers. A session would be held if it is supported by three-fifths of the House and three-fifths of the Senate.
On this episode of Political Connections, we spoke with State Senator Jim Boyd, who has been pushing for property insurance reform.
