This is a step that travel agents like Janet Danio have been waiting on for months.
“I am very excited as a travel agent and as a traveler,” shared Danio.
Danio has been assisting travelers with their plans for three decades, and has owned ATEC TRAVEL since 1992.
She has seen a little of everything, but COVID-19 was unlike anything her industry had experienced.
“It’s been really tough for two years as travel agents. We made no money because we canceled everything that was booked,” Danio explained.
Many of her clients have bypassed trips to the airport over the last two years.
International traffic at Orlando International Airport took a blow once the pandemic hit in 2020, according to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
More than seven million people traveled through the airport in 2019 compared to last year’s numbers that fell short of two million travelers.
“They don’t want to get stuck in a foreign country and not know how they’re going to get home,” said Danio.
The travel agent says she expects relaxed guidelines to ease the minds of people who have put their vacations on hold since the pandemic started.
She has lost a lot of business since travel restrictions have gone into place, but is hoping this next step will be positive for Central Florida as a whole.
“I’m smiling a lot more, and now this. I’m excited.”
