In his spare time, usually evenings and weekends, he finds bikes that are broken and not needed and finds them homes.
He calls it second chance rides.
“I started this donation deal where I go to other people’s houses, pick up their bikes, fix ‘em up, and give the bike a second chance to go to somebody that wants to ride,” Baroni said.
And there is a definite method to his madness.
“There are kids out there that need exercise and need to get out,” he said. “Let alone when the kids get out, the parents get out too. So it makes it worthwhile for both of them. Like a family deal.”
The bike process to get riding begins by going to Baroni’s Facebook page: Second Chance Rides.
He started all this five months ago and so far has found homes for about 55 bikes for riders age 5 to over 60.
There is never a charge.
Along with his time, Baroni has spent more than $1,000 of his own money.
For Baroni the joy is in the giving.
“There’s so much negativity everywhere,” Baroni said. “I’m hoping that this gets a little bit of positive attitude out and kind of lightens everybody up.”
Those wanting to help can purchase a gift card for him at Jim’s Bike Shop in St. Petersburg.
