A Pinellas County woman has dedicated two decades to caring for animals in need.

What You Need To Know

On a hot and steamy July morning, Kim Kryza is up early and ready to feed and check on her colonies of feral and stray cats and kittens.

“They get a couple of scoops and a couple of dollops of wet food on top," she said. "And they always get water because it’s hot out here, and it’s summer time and they need the water almost more than they need the food."

She says she started almost 20 years ago after seeing a growing number of hungry cats and kittens in need of attention and love.

For between three and four hours a day, split up before and after work, she cares for about 250 cats.

Any uneaten food, which very rarely happens, is cleaned up three hours later.

Kim works hand-in-hand with organizations like “Meow Now,” which trap the cats, inoculate, spay and neuter them, before releasing them to return to their lives.

She also encourages all dog and cat owners to have their pets spayed or neutered.

In her efforts to feed the feral and stray cats, Kim spends almost $2,000 a month, which mostly comes out of her own pocket.

She has started a GoFund me page called Kim’s Cat Crusade, and is also hoping to find some volunteers to help with the feedings by contacting her on her Facebook page.

Come rain, heat or cold, it is a daily promise that she keeps 365 days a year, and while she admits there are days she would rather pass, the animals' needs always win out.

“I think about them and how hungry they are," she said. "That I’m not only the only food that they get but I’m the only socialization that they get per day.”
