HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A busy road in Apollo Beach has some parents concerned now that school is back in session, especially when driving through a series of 4-way stops.

The road in question is Paseo Al Mar Blvd just east of US 41.

The road was recently extended to US 301, as part of the Apollo Beach Flyover.

What You Need To Know

Apollo Beach resident Sarah Labancz says it’s caused an increase in traffic. On top of that, there’s been no traffic lights added. Instead, there’s a series of 4-way stops.

“As a driver, it’s kind of anxiety-inducing. Only because you don’t know what the other drivers are doing,” Labancz said.

In addition, there’s also added congestion from the new Waterset Charter School there.

Labancz says you can even see some students trying to walk through these busy areas.

“I’ve seen multiple accidents almost happen, including when I’m driving. Because drivers don’t know who’s next to go in this 4-way.”

Hillsborough County says engineers are doing observations of the new traffic flow.

In addition, officials say a traffic light will be added there soon, too, at the intersection of Waterset Blvd. The local home developer plans on doing it by early 2023.

“At least during those school hours, we do need a general traffic flow with a red, yellow and green light,” Labancz said.
