In Ybor City, we visited the warehouse for Home Makers of Hope.
Pam Stamey is the founder of this faith-based organization whose mission she stated in just a few words.
“We furnish houses for the poor, for low income families. That’s what we do,” she said.
And it’s what they have been doing since 2008.
Prior to that she had been teaching when a social worker told her: “We have kids sleeping on the floor all over this town and I was like, ‘What are you talking about? In my town?’ That doesn’t happen in my town, but it does.”
And Home Makers of Hope was born. Over the past 14 years it has reached over 3,000 Hillsborough County homes and families.
“We go in and we decorate,” Stamey said. “We put pictures on the wall and make the beds and bring in the beds, bring the couches and the chairs and the dishes, pots and pans. We have everything.”
Volunteers, household items and financial support is always welcome. Information can be found on their website.
Families receiving help are referred to Stamey by other organizations.
