TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa police officer was nearly hit head on by two drivers going the wrong way on the Selmon Expressway early Sunday morning, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officer Van Treese was driving a DUI suspect to jail when the incident at the 78th Street exit happened, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Van Treese swerved to miss the sedan and van, according to the post, but he is concerned the drivers may have also been intoxicated. He immediately called in the incident, but attempts to locate the drivers are still ongoing. No one was injured.

The Tampa Police Department is reminding drivers to never drive distracted or impaired, and to have a designated driver when drinking or use a ride share service.
