“We were fortunate. The storm took a hard-right turn but you never want that to be put on anyone else. So, we really felt like since we were in such a good situation to do that for the folks down south,” said OCC Roadhouse & Museum owner, Keith Overton. “It was the right thing to do. We’ve already got 20 thousand dollars raised. Hopefully we can raise another ten to 15 thousand dollars on Sunday and all that money is going to go to individuals directly who have had a significant impact as a result of the storm.”
One of the people impacted by the storm set to benefit from the money raised is Mike Gregory. He lives in Englewood and his mobile home got some of the worst of it when the storm hit South West Florida.
“The noises got just so angry and evil sounding. When people tell you is sounds like a freight train, it sounded like that tenfold. More than just one. It was just nuts. Crazy,” he said.
The motorcycle enthusiast said he and his wife, Tammy wore their motorcycle helmets to protect their heads in case their roof blew off.
“I rode that ride once. I didn’t like it and I’m not going to do it again. So when they tell us to get out. We’re out. We’re gone,” Gregory said.
He still doesn’t have power and he said their walls inside of their home are collapsing. The money raised is expected to help his family and several others.
Five bands preformed at the benefit concert. All five bands donated their time. The show is from noon until around 7 p.m.
