NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. —  The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is investigating an overnight shooting at a home on Menifee Court that left a woman dead.

Sheriff Chris Nocco called the shooting a "targeted hit."

Nocco said the man entered the home just before 1 a.m., kicking open the door after a woman sleeping on the couch answered his knock.

The suspect walked to a bedroom and turned on the light, according to authorities.

Nocco said a second woman in the bed with two children sat up as the suspect pointed a gun at her. She said don’t shoot before the man fired, knocking her off the bed. He fired another round and then left.

The children and other woman were not injured.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10 man with a heavy build. He was wearing all dark clothes and his face was covered by a mask.
