Nick Popham joined the team at Bay News 9 in July 2022 and is beyond thrilled to call the bay area home!
Nick grew up near Pasadena, CA in a town called Altadena. He played baseball for 15 years before deciding to talk in front of a camera for a living. Nick graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2015 and interned at 60 Minutes in New York City and FOX Sports Radio in LA.
Nick has worked in essentially every region of the United States. He kicked off his career as a multimedia journalist in Sioux City, Iowa at the CBS/FOX affiliate, KMEG/KPTH, also known as Siouxland News. While working for Siouxland News, Nick won his first journalism award from the Iowa Broadcast News Association for his feature piece on the 36th Annual Wayne Chicken Show in Wayne, NE. He also covered the 2016 presidential race and filled in as an anchor and producer.
Nick then went on to work as a general assignment reporter for KATV, the ABC affiliate in Little Rock, AR. He spent his nearly two years in Arkansas covering breaking news, severe weather (including Hurricane Michael), politics, and filled in as a news and sports anchor.
Most recently, Nick spent the last three years as a multimedia journalist for KOMO, the ABC affiliate in Seattle, WA. While in the northwest, Nick was nominated for an Emmy for his contribution to team coverage of the Seattle riots that took place on May 30, 2020. He spent multiple days covering demonstrations during that time, as well as was serving as one of the station's primary reporters on the COVID-19 pandemic. Nick was actually the first reporter on scene in Kirkland, WA at the Life Care Center for the first announced COVID-19 death in the United States in February 2020.
When not working, Nick is most likely at the movies, or with his wife, Bethany, at Disney World.
