The construction of John F. Kennedy International Airport’s new Terminal 6 will kick off early next year, with its first gates set to open in 2026, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Thursday.
The new 1.2 million-square-foot, $4.2 billion terminal will include 10 gates, a “spacious” arrivals and departures hall, “touchless technology” and more than 100,000 square feet of shops and eateries, Hochul said in a press release.

The privately financed project, which will create 4,000 jobs, is a public-private partnership between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners, the release said.
"JFK International — the nation's door to the world — will soon be worthy of New Yorkers, providing an unparalleled passenger experience," Hochul said in a statement.
Work will take place in two stages and is expected to wrap up in 2028, the governor said. The terminal will "connect seamlessly to JetBlue's Terminal 5," the release noted.
The new terminal is the last piece of the so-called “JFK Vision Plan” to get underway, according to the release. In September, workers began renovating Terminal One as part of an effort to rebuild the airport.
It adds to other construction projects already underway at the airport, including at Terminals 4 and 8. It also comes after the opening of a $4 billion revamp of Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport.
