SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Divers have completed search and recovery operations at the site of the plane crash off the coast of Venice, approximately 1/3 of a mile west offshore, officials with the city of Venice said in a news release on Wednesday, adding that the search for the missing pilot has been discontinued at this time.
The identities of the victims in the crash that happened Saturday were released on Tuesday.
The victims in the crash are 42-year-old pilot Christian Kath, 42, his wife Misty Kath, 43, and their daughter Lily, 12, according to officials with the city of Venice in a news release.
The family had been living in St. Petersburg, and previously resided in Australia, officials said.
Venice police said Misty and Lily were found after they died in the crash Saturday. Christian remains missing.
The plane originally took off from St. Petersburg. It was due back Saturday night but never returned.
Officials said the rented Piper Cherokee's wreckage was found about a third of a mile off shore, directly west of the Venice Municipal Airport, after the FAA was alerted about an overdue aircraft.
