MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Several people, including a 1-year-old child, are safe after being barricaded in a home on the block of 20th St. E. in Bradenton Tuesday morning.
Bradenton Police Department said the 31-year-old-man was armed and taken into custody. Police also said he also had a search warrant out for his arrest but did not say if that was related to this event.
Bradenton Police Department said they responded to a domestic call around 6 a.m. When officers arrived, a man was seen with a weapon.
Officers said that's when they called in the SWAT team.
Shortly after, officers were able to respond to the people in the house and those individuals left safely. However, police said the 1-year-old child was still inside with the armed man.
Around 8 a.m., police said the man came out of the house and crews rescued the child, who was not injured.
"We are very thankful. This could have gone very badly," said Bradention Police Department Public Information Officer Meredith Frameli. "We know that the subject was armed and especially when you have a child inside of the home, it can be a very scary situation. We are grateful that this ended without anyone being hurt."
UPDATE: Subject has been taken into custody and everyone is safe. BPD will provide more information in a media release later this morning. pic.twitter.com/Iim3XtvTrg
