MILWAUKEE — After dealing with several line of duty deaths while serving as chief of the Milwaukee Police Department, current Fitchburg Police Chief Alfonso Morales said members of the department will lean on each other, along with their friends, families and an active chaplaincy program to grieve together.

“It takes a while to recover from it,” said Chief Morales. “Physically, as well, there’s pain you will experience that you cannot identify how or why [it is] happening.”

Chief Morales said the support network for Jerving’s family and the Milwaukee Police Department extends well beyond the city limits in the wake of a tragic situation like this.

“This is a tough situation,” Chief Morales said. “The family in law enforcement extends past just the employees of the City of Milwaukee.”
