TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — City officials from Treasure Island and Indian Rocks Beach will head to Sanibel Island this week to hear about the impacts of Hurricane Ian and the lessons learned.
Mayors from both cities, along with other elected officials and staff members, plan to meet with Sanibel Island’s public works department, emergency response teams and building department.
Treasure Island Mayor Tyler Payne said he’s interested in hearing from the city’s building department and which policies have helped them in the rebuilding process.
“Learning from them now that they’ve been through it, whether it’s things they wish they had put into their building code before it happened now that people are trying to rebuild, is going to be really important,” Payne explained. “We need to figure out a balance of maintaining that history but also moving into the resiliency side of things.”
The group of city leaders plans to bring donations with them for those working to rebuild in southwest Florida. The donations will go to FISH of SANCAP.
Items needed include:
- Shelf-stable foods
- Soap
- Shampoo

- Eyeglasses

Donations can be brought to Indian Rocks Beach City Hall and Treasure Island City Hall through Feb. 14.
