TAMPA, Fla. — Fade Away Barbershop in Plant City has partnered with non-profit organization Gifted Hands to give free haircuts to homeless populations in the area.

What You Need To Know

  • Fade Away Barbershop gives free haircuts to the homeless every Sunday
  • Fade Away Barbershop is in Plant City
  • Gifted Hands is a non-profit that gives back to those in need

The initiative was started by Adrian Morales, one of the co-founders of the barber shop, who is passionate about helping people.

After going to business school, he wanted to do something where he could touch lives.

“You won't really get the full experience of helping people and, you know, having that network. Until you open a shop,” said Morales.

He opened the business with his close friends over a year ago. He says not only is he helping people in his business but outside of it too.

The partnership with Gifted Hands began when Morales met Matt, a member of the organization, who asked if he wanted to give back.

Morales jumped at the opportunity and together with Gifted Hands, they started giving free haircuts.

"We've been giving free haircuts for a year now, already giving more than a thousand," Morales said. He added that giving a haircut to a homeless person can "reboot somebody's life."

"There's a process to every haircut that's given, and we're happy to see those who get a haircut leave with a smile on their face," Morales said.

The barber shop and non-profit also give out free food to those in need.
