LARGO, Fla. — A Pinellas County plastic surgeon facing charges in the disappearance and murder of a Largo lawyer is making his first appearance in court Monday.

Tomasz Kosowski, 44, is facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the disappearance of attorney Steven Cozzi.

According to Largo Police, the case began last week at the Blanchard Law Firm.

Investigators say Cozzi went to the bathroom and never returned to his office, leaving his car keys, wallet and cell phone behind.

Police say further investigation at the scene revealed a strong odor of bleach in the bathroom and blood evidence, though Cozzi's body has not been located.

The missing persons investigation eventually lead police to Kosowski.

Although his business offices are listed in Miami, the doctor has a home in Tarpon Springs.

Neighbors had no comment on him.

Kosowski was taken into custody Sunday morning in Tarpon Springs during a traffic stop and later charged in connection with Cozzi’s disappearance.

According to Spectrum Bay News 9’s partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times, there was a civil case making its way through court where Dr. Kosowski was the plaintiff and several of the defendants were represented by the Blanchard law firm.
