“What if their friends or family members go through the same thing?” Arrieta’s father, Alfredo Arrieta, asked about anyone who may have information. “Would that person be worried about snitching or not snitching? It has to stop somewhere.”

Plant City Police Chief Jim Bradford said Arrieta, 29, and a friend were driving home after spending the day on Anna Maria Island when the shooting happened.

Her brother, Michael Arrieta, was emotional while speaking with reporters about the sister loved ones affectionately called “Ellie”.

“She lit up the room right when she walked in,” Michael Arrieta said. “She got the respect, the love, support from family, friends, co-workers. She was more than just a sister. She raised other individuals who were the same age like they were her own. She wasn’t blessed with a child of her own, but she liked to say that all the close friends that she took in were definitely part of her family.”

Police said the driver of the car Arrieta was in was also shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Bradford said he didn’t have information on that man’s condition.

“In the days since this horrific incident, Plant City detectives have worked tirelessly to investigate this case,” said Bradford.

He said the suspect vehicle believed to be involved is a 2009-2015 gray or silver Toyota Prius with a temporary paper license plate and after-market lights with a bluish hue.

Bradford said investigators also want to speak with the driver of a black Dodge Charger that may have had contact with the suspect vehicle before the shooting.

Bradford said police received information the Charger driver may have had some type of interaction with the Toyota on I-4.

He said the hope is that the second car may have had a dash cam that captured details of the Toyota.

“We’re up on an interstate where we’ve got people traveling from all over to basically all over, so it can be difficult,” said Bradford of the challenge of investigating a shooting that took place on the interstate.

Michael Arrieta, who spoke to reporters while wearing a shirt that read “Humanity”, said his family is asking anyone with information to come forward.

“This shirt is not a mistake. ‘Humanity’ – there’s way more better people out here than there is bad people, so I’m looking out for humanity right now,” Michael Arrieta said.

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information that helps solve this case. Anyone with a tip can call 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).

Bradford said anyone who wants to speak with Plant City detectives can call (813) 707-2270. He said to claim the reward, those with information must contact Crime Stoppers first.
