A 25-year-old man, who works at the hotel as a valet, and a 27-year-old woman were both in the parking garage at the time of they shooting. They suffered non-life threatening injuries and remain in stable condition at a local hospital.

“This is not something that was random,” said assistant police Chief Michael Kovacsev. “It was a targeted attack on the female and another subject that was inside. Unfortunately, the valet was unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Bryan French lives across Central Ave. from the hotel. He said he was at the gym at the time of the shooting and only realized something had happened when first responders arrived.

“There was a lot of commotion – I guess the sirens of the ambulance arriving on the scene,” French said.

French told Spectrum Bay News 9 he’s lived in St. Petersburg for three years.

“I love this town, and one of the reasons is because it is safe – safer than a lot of major cities that have some problems right now,” said French. “So, the fact that happened in broad daylight and right at the Hilton, that kind of makes you wonder what’s going on.”

On the first floor of French’s building, business owner Patrick Lefevre said he also didn’t hear any shots from his gelato shop, Mammamia Gelato Italiano.

“It’s quiet here – no problem, never,” Lefevre said.

Kovacsev said there isn’t believed to be any danger to the public, but French said the incident is concerning.

“It’s a little bit nervous. I’m walking the dog now, and you know – I live right across the street. So, something to think about, for sure,” French said.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call St. Pete Police at (727) 893-7780 or text SPPD plus the information to TIP411.
