ST. LOUIS—An assistant circuit attorney in St. Louis City died in a four vehicle crash on I-270 in south St. Louis County last night.

The St. Louis circuit attorney’s office confirmed that 32-year-old James Heitman was killed in the wreck. 

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his CAO family at this tragic time,” said Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner in a statement. 

The Missouri Highway Patrol Crash report states Heitman, who lived in Sappington,  was on southbound I-270 past the Tesson Ferry exit when he changed lanes and hit a vehicle that had stopped for traffic, causing a chain-reaction crash. He was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital South. 

A 61-year-old woman from Hillsboro received minor injuries during the crash.
