ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The family of Cassandra Gelineau is pleading for anyone with information about the hit-and-run that took her life to come forward.

What You Need To Know

  • Cassandra Gelineau, 28, was killed in a hit-and-run in St. Petersburg on May 6

  • St. Petersburg Police say it happened just after 2 AM at the intersection of 34th St. S. and 15th Ave. S.

  • According to police, the blue 2006 Lexus RX330 believed to be involved was found in the area, but the driver is still unknown

  • Cassandra’s family set up a memorial near the crash site and asks anyone with information to come forward

“She was wickedly funny – a little crazy at times, but we all are,” remembers her mother, Jina Gelineau. “She was a good kid. She always wanted to help. She would do anything for anybody, and that’s why I wanted to do this, because I want someone to help her, and I want compassion for Cassandra and closure for Cassandra.”

Gelineau and her daughters – Cassandra was the youngest of five girls – set up a memorial along 34th St. S. Tuesday evening.

It’s at the spot where they say video footage shows her body came to rest on May 6, after she was struck by a car while crossing at the intersection with 15th Ave. S.

According to St. Petersburg Police, it happened around 2:15 AM while Cassandra was in the crosswalk.

Gelineau told Spectrum Bay News 9 her daughter was walking home after closing up at a nearby Burger King, where she worked as a manager.

“Told her boyfriend, ‘I’m just going across the street to get some smokes,’ and never made it back,” Gelineau said.

According to police, the car involved was a blue 2006 Lexus RX330 that was traveling northbound in the 1800 block of 34th St. S. at the time of the crash.

While they said the car was found in the area later, the driver is still unknown.

Gelineau said the loss of Cassandra has devastated her family.

She was mother to an eight-year-old daughter and six-year-old son.

She said she believes people other than the driver may know what happened. Gelineau is asking anyone with information to come forward.

“You’re a human being, she was a human being,” she said when asked what she would tell the driver. “I don’t think they’re a piece of garbage, and I know she wasn’t. So, just come forward and answer for what happened and fill in the holes that we don’t know.”
