ST. LOUIS — Cadets and explorers of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) recently earned top placements in a variety of law enforcement competitions against 13 other agencies nationwide.

SLMPD cadets and explorers placed first in crime scene investigation, second in high-risk car stop, second in interview and interrogation, second in tactical fitness, second in crisis intervention, third in disturbance and fourth overall out of 14 teams, according to Sgt. Charles Wall.

The competitions took place in Topeka, Kansas.

“Our cadet and explorer program(s) are a great opportunity for younger individuals that may be interested in some type of career in law enforcement,” Wall said.

The Police Cadet Program was reestablished in 2018 that offers young adults with paid job training of different units within the police department, according to the SLMPD website.

The St. Louis Police Explorers Unit teaches young adults about the mission and objectives of law enforcement agencies and provides opportunities to gain practical experience while serving the community, the website states.
