ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — There is a level of intricacy that goes into sailing, and the process takes years to fully master.
Capt. Nick Johnson has perfected the art of sailing and operates St. Pete Sailing Charters along with his wife Kelly.
After working a corporate job for 12 years, Johnson sold everything, moved to Florida and bought the Satori in late 2014.
“I initially came down and did a four-day charter with a Fantasy Sailing out of Fort Myers. And Capt. Paul was my mentor, and that experience was incredible. And honestly, that’s when my life changed,” he said.
Johnson lived on his sailboat for several years before meeting his wife, Kelly. For three years they traveled the world together on the Satori. A few years ago they settled down and put roots in St. Pete, where they opened their charters St. Pete Sailing Company.
The pair offer guests an experience out on the waters of St. Pete, while sailing at sunset or enjoying a half or full day of sailing. Guests can even sail to Egmont Key where you can spend the day shelling and enjoying the beach.
“It’s a fulfilling job to share this experience with other people and even if they are just looking to come out for a bit and hang on the boat, to be able to share that and bring people joy. It’s pretty great.”
St. Pete Sailing Charters are open seven days a week and you can book from several experiences.
