He is dealing with deep cuts and broken bones in his legs.

Wetmore was out with his kids and girlfriend scallop diving when he was hit. This happened on July 6 around 3:45 p.m. northwest of St Martins River in the Crystal River/Homosassa scallop grounds.

Wetmore says he didn’t see the boat until it was right on top of him. He quickly dove but it was too late. The boat struck his legs. At first, he thought he had lost his legs.

“He just drove right through us and right over the top of me,” Jason said.

Jason says the boat involved in the hit-and-run stopped for a moment a then took off. The vessel is described as either a Sea Fox or Robalo – very light blue with chrome lettering (23 to 30 feet long) with a single dark engine and a white T-Top.

Jason was taken to a nearby hospital and has endured long surgeries but his spirits are high. He hopes someone will come forward with information about the boat involved. Witnesses say that there were at least 5 or more people onboard.

“I am trying not really think about that part of it personally.. I mean a lot of people are concerned.. we would definitely like to see the individuals involved come forward,” Jason said.
