WEST ALLIS, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Fair is almost here. Before you grab your cream puffs, here's what you should know before you go. 

When is the Wisconsin State Fair?

The Wisconsin State Fair runs from Aug. 3 to 13. It's open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, and from 10 a.m. to midnight Thursdays through Saturdays. 

Ticket sales and entry end one hour before the fair is set to close for the night. 

What is the bag policy at the fair? 

All bags must be 9 inches x 10 inches x 12 inches, or smaller. All bags are subject to inspection.

Empty soft-sided bags such as totes and backpacks are permitted, regardless of size. 

Family care and medical care bags are permitted.

What items are allowed and what should I leave at home?

The following items are allowed at the State Fair:

  • Collapsible/telescopic umbrellas 
  • Strollers & wagons
  • Cameras for personal use including DSLRs 
  • Empty, collapsed tote bags
  • Small bags, cinch bags or purses
  • Backpacks used as diaper bags
  • Sealed bottled water
  • Soft-sided coolers for infants/family or dietary needs
  • Empty cups, such as the State Fair Souvenir Cup, or empty water bottles
  • Seat cushions 

The following items are not allowed at Wisconsin State Fair:

  • Illegal drugs or substances and paraphernalia
  • Firearms
  • Knives
  • Weapons or objects that could be used as weapons
  • Fireworks, sparklers, or explosives
  • Large bags over 9 inches x 10 inches x 12 inches
  • Hard-sided coolers
  • Camelback style hydration packs
  • Large stick umbrellas or golf umbrellas
  • Picnic baskets
  • Outside food and beverages (unless needed for infants or dietary needs)
  • Glass bottles
  • Aerosol cans (with the exception of spray sunscreens)
  • Alcohol of any kind
  • UAV – drones
  • Pets 
  • Selfie sticks
  • Banners or flags on poles
  • Signs 
  • Laser pointers
  • Lawn chairs
  • Skateboards, hoverboards, roller skates or inline skates
  • Foot powered or electric scooters 
  • Bicycles, tricycles or unicycles
  • Hula hoops
  • Stadium seats
  • Other carry-ins as determined by State Fair management

The following items are not allowed in the State Fair Main Stage:

  • Umbrellas
  • Professional grade cameras and video equipment, unless expressly authorized by the performer
  • Stadium seats
  • Signs
  • Other items as determined by the performer or State Fair Management

How much are tickets?

Tickets are $18 for fair-goers 12-years-old and older. 

Tickets are $13 for those 60-years-old and older, those between 6- to 11-years-old, military personnel with ID and veterans with ID. 

Children 5-years-old and younger can go to the fair for free.

Where can I buy tickets?

You can purchase tickets online, here. 

You can also purchase tickets at the State Fair Ticket Office. The office is located at 7722 W. Greenfield Avenue in West Allis, Wis. It's open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. The office is closed on the weekends. 

Tickets are also for sale at the fair's entrance upon arrival. However, patrons will not be able to use cash.

What is the re-entry policy?

You can leave the fairgrounds and come back the same day. However, you must get a hand stamp before you exit in order to return. Re-entry hand stamps are valid until two hours before the fair closes for the night. 

Vehicles that leave the parking lot will have to pay for parking upon re-entry. 

Do I need a different ticket for a Bank Five Nine Amphitheater show?

No.

Do I need a different ticket for a Main Stage show?

Yes, Main Stage shows require different tickets. However, Main Stage tickets include admisison to the general fairgrounds on the date of the show.

How should I plan to pay for things from vendors?

Most fair vendors take cash and credit cards. ATMs are available throughout the fairgrounds, too. 

How do the souvenir cups work?

Wisconsin State Fair souvenir cups are available to purchase for $8. The cups hold 32 ounces, and soda refills are available at participating locations for $4. 

You can purchase the 2023 souvenir cup, or bring your souvenir cup from a previous year to get the same deals. 

I will be traveling by an Uber, Lyft or taxi. Where should I go to get picked up?

There is a designated pick-up and drop-off area outside the UScelluar Main Entrance for Uber, Lyft and taxi riders. The area ius on the north side of the fairgrounds, near SpinCity. 

Rideshare vehicles and taxis should enter at Gate 6 to pick up riders.

Can I rent a scooter, wheelchair, wagon or stroller?

When does SpinCity open?

SpinCity opens daliy at 11 a.m. Closing times vary. 

Can I use my wristband or Spin 'n Play pass from last year?

Wristbands cannot be used beyond the year they are purchased.

Tickets on a Spin 'n Play pass can be used the year they are purchased, or the following year. 

How do I purchase SpinCity tickets?

SpinCity tickets are digitized and loaded onto a Spin 'n Play pass. Tickets, via the pass, are redeemable at any ride or game in SpinCity. Tickets can be purchased online, at the State Fair Ticket Office or at ticket booths and kiosks at the fairgrounds.
