"I opened Victory High School because it was a high school I needed as a teenager," said Miller.
Miller has been sober for 25 years. During that time she's worked in education and criminal justice. She wanted to continue that work by helping students in recovery succeed in school.
“We can be that place where they can feel safe and feel like they can come here and that they feel like they’re cared about," said Miller.
The students are given the support they need to finish high school and stay sober.
“I want them to learn first and foremost that they have a purpose and there is hope and that they can live a life substance free," said Miller.
She loves seeing the progress they make each day.
“They’re so creative and there is so much hope with them. And they’re brilliant," said Miller.
Miller says plans are in the works to open another school in Pinellas County this fall.
