PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — People enjoying the outdoors in Clearwater may soon have an extra tool to help them stay one step ahead of severe weather.
The city council is looking at signing a contract with HQE systems for a severe weather alert system.

One beachgoer said he thinks it's a good idea, especially given how quickly the weather can change.
"It still gives people time to get to their vehicles and make the proper, you know, things they need to do for their families,” said beach visitor Leo Frierson. “I think it'd be awesome."
A city spokesperson said the council could vote on the nearly $1.3-million contract Thursday.
