A flood warning has been issued for the Alafia River from Wednesday morning to Wednesday evening.
Major flooding is forecast at Alafia River at Riverview, near U.S. 301.
At 4.2 feet, water begins to impact homes on Pine Avenue and Park Drive.
At 8 p.m. Tuesday, the stage was only 0.8 feet, but the prediction is for heavy rain bands to cause that level to rise quickly through the morning.
The river will oscillate around flood stage with a maximum value of 5.7 feet early Wednesday afternoon.
This crest compares to a previous crest of 6.0 feet on Sept. 26, 2004.
The good news here is that since this has been a drier than normal summer, the levels should go down quickly within a couple of days after the storm.
