TAMPA, Fla. — Katie McGill, the executive director for Dress For Success Tampa died “suddenly and unexpectedly” over the weekend, according to representatives for the organization. She was 62.

McGill was charitable staple in the Bay area, known for her workshops, training seminars and volunteerism. She led the women’s organization for the past 16 years and is remembered for being a force of nature and an incredible person.

Shelby Coriaty worked with McGill for years.

“Katie was amazing, she was amazing woman,” Coriaty said. “Katie was a dear friend to me but she was a dear friend to everyone and that’s what made her so special.”

McGill led a remarkable life filled with countless accomplishments. In addition to being the executive director for Dress for Success Tampa, she volunteered at the Hillsborough County Women’s Correctional Facility and at the Crisis Center of Tampa. Throughout her years she was also awarded the Tampa Bay Rays Breaking Barriers Award and the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero.

“Anybody in our organization in Dress for Success could do this interview, every single woman can sit here and say all of the wonderful accolades about Katie. She was just so tenacious,” Coriaty said.

Dress for Success posted a statement about McGill on its social media.

“Katie was a compassionate and dedicated leader, who cared deeply for her clients, colleagues and community,” the post read. “Our entire organization is in mourning, and our thoughts are with Katie’s family.”

A service for McGill will be held Sept. 23 at Bayshore Baptist Church.
