TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County residents impacted by Hurricane Idalia can now apply for federal assistance.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management announced that FEMA approved Hillsborough and Charlotte counties for individual assistance. Homeowners and renters who sustained loss can apply for financial assistance, temporary lodging, basic home repairs and other disaster-related expenses.
It’s help that Courtney and Cory French welcome as they work to repair the bottom floor of their Riverview home that flooded.
“It’s an expensive task, drywall. Everything is going up in price these days,” said Courtney.
While the couple works to replace drywall, insulation, furniture and appliances, they consider themselves lucky, saying others in their neighborhood were more severely impacted.
The French’s say they will apply with FEMA right away.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management and Hillsborough County are working to establish a disaster recovery center to assist residents whose property was impacted.
