It’s called Safari Wilderness, and it gives guests the opportunity to travel through its vast 260-acre property near Lakeland to feed and see wild animals up close and personal.

Visitors can go through the property by custom vehicle, riding camels, ATVs, kayak or even by driving their own cars.

“We have animals from all over the world here," said J.J. James, who has been giving tours to visitors at Safari Wilderness for the past 10 years. "And we're able to give these animals all this room to move around — 260 acres.”

Animals that often walk right up to visitors so they can enjoy some of the treats provided.

There are some animals from which you want to keep your distance, though.

“Zebras. Not painted ponies, folks," James said. "They will stomp and kill anything that comes after them that’s lower than their belly. They have been known to kick a lion in its jaw — break the lion’s jaw.”

The custom vehicle safari tour costs $119 per person and is open to all ages.

Guests can also pay to travel the property in their own vehicles. Prices vary based on the way they choose to get around.

Several special interactions can be purchased, too. One is feeding cheetahs raw chicken with only a fence separating the guests.

“And you're welcome to take all the pictures you want," James said. "Video, pictures — we welcome all that. But I do encourage people to put their phones away, be in the moment and enjoy the animals.”

The park is located near Lakeland, and online reservations are mandatory.
