DUNEDIN, Fla. – Brandon Glenn spent years teaching before becoming principal at Dunedin Highland Middle School.
He loves being able to make a difference and help students learn in the area where he grew up.
“The feeling is indescribable. I can’t explain it,” Glenn said. “But just to know that I see my students even on the weekends when I attend their football games, it’s a different thing and it’s a great feeling. I can’t even explain it. It’s just amazing.”
Glenn said he didn’t take school seriously when he was in high school.
It was the challenges he faces to graduate that helped shape his passion for education. He feels it’s important to connect with every student to help them be successful.
“That’s really the joy of it, having the opportunity to truly impact and change lives,” he said.
He took on the role as principal last year. Within that time, he took the school’s grade from a C to an A.
We asked him how he achieved that. He said, “(Through) systems, processes, high expectations and believing that it can be done.”
We also asked Glenn about his goals for this school year.
“Every year, everyday the goal is to continuously get better,” he said. “So the goal is not to just get there. It’s to stay there and continue to push forward and excel even more,” said Glenn. He went on to say, “I want to be a difference maker. I want to make sure every kid feels like they have a place they can connect to.”
Glenn says his motto for the teachers is, “teach those students like you would want someone to teach your child.”
