TAMPA, Fla. — Plant High football player Chase Jarrett brings versatility to the field.
“I play running back, full back, sometimes receiver. Outside linebacker, sometimes inside and safety," he said.
The Plant High senior plays multiple roles, making big plays on all three units.
“His ability to play every position — he’s on all three units: offense, defense and special teams," head coach Hank Brown said. “He gives his heart and soul to everything he does. It’s 100% effort all the time. The kid is go, go, go, and he’s not doing it for himself or personal accolades, he’s doing it for his teammates.”
Brown, who has been coaching Jarrett since eighth grade, said he has been a big part of the Panthers success, playing on varsity for all four years.
“He has an understanding. He was here through the down years in the beginning and building it back up," Brown said. "He’s been that building block each and every year. Pushing all of his teammates to continue to be better than what they’re doing. Setting goals and just believing in the standard and buying into what we’re doing.”
As a captain, Jarrett has helped the team form a brotherhood — leading to an impressive playoff push.
“Since we have to be here so early, at 5 a.m., we’re always working hard together so we know what it takes, and I feel like we’ve spent so much time together we’ve created those bonds,” he said.
His leadership is visible off the field too.
Jarrett created his own nonprofit with the help of his teammates called “Dinking for donations,” organizing pickleball tournaments to raise funds for different causes.
“We raised around $1,000 and we did a Thanksgiving food drive,” Jarrett said about a recent tournament.
As his senior season ends, his football days aren’t over. He has plans to play college football and he has a lot of options.
“It’s a unique opportunity for him, the sky is the limit," Brown said. "He has Group of 5, Power 5 — everyone is looking at him and wanting to see what he can do for them and how he could fit into their programs. He’s basically got all the Ivy Leagues and guys like that into him. So, it’s really going to boil down to where he sees his best fit."
As Jarrett looks to his future, he said he’s grateful for a coach that has guided him along the way.
