SPRING HILL, Fla. — NJoy Spirits Distillery is a short drive through Hernando County’s Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area.
Along the way, there are miles of palmettos, pines and palms to NJoy Spirits Distillery.
On there, you’ll find animals like Snickers the donkey, who fights off alligators to protect his cow posse.
There is Kebob, the cow that became a pet. She’s got white eyelashes and eats orange slices. And fox squirrels roam the property, along with wild turkeys.
Kevin and Natalie Goff own NJoy — it’s part of their 80-acre ranch.
Kevin Goff has been making booze for a while.
“Well, since high school. But legally licensed about 16 years ago,” he said, laughing. “I got the statute of limitations.”
From start to finish, Goff shows visitors the steps to making spirits in their repurposed horse barn.
The tours include a few nips of whiskey, rum and moonshine. And visitors can see where they grow their raw materials.
The Goffs use the cane for rum and rye for whiskey, making them a certified farm distillery, offering endless opportunities for a lifelong passion turned into a business.
“Making the product and creating and all the experimental stuff — that’s the part I enjoy,” said Goff.
And sharing the outcomes with the public.
