WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A missing Polk County woman is dead, and the sheriff's office said a suspect in her murder should be considered armed and dangerous. Sheriff Grady Judd said Monday a $10,000 reward is being offered for information on the whereabouts of Enrique "KiKi" Martinez, 26, for his alleged role in the murder of 20-year-old Sierra Hernandez.

What You Need To Know

  • The Polk County sheriff says the body of missing woman Sierra Hernandez, 20, has been recovered

  • Enrique Martinez, 26, is a suspect in her murder

  • Martinez has been wanted for first-degree murder since November for allegedly killing a homeless man in a camp where he also lived

  • Martinez has two tattoos: a "W7" on his left wrist and "Natalia" on the left side of his neck

According to Judd, Martinez has a lengthy criminal history that dates back to 2011 and includes 13 felony and 15 misdemeanor arrests. The sheriff's office said he was most recently arrested last April for battery domestic violence and resisting arrest. He was released on bond.

"He's been to prison for five years for stabbing one of his ex-girlfriends in the face, and many of these charges are violent," Judd said.

The sheriff's office said Hernandez's family reported Sierra missing on Jan. 14, but it's believed she was killed days before that. Judd said the investigation led to Martinez. He told reporters very limited information was being released as of Monday evening to keep key details from possible additional suspects.

Martinez has been wanted for first-degree murder since November, when he allegedly killed a 33-year-old homeless man, Edil Fernando Rodriguez, Jr. Judd said deputies have been looking for him ever since.

"Enrique is homeless. He was living in the homeless camp when he committed the murder, but he has friends and family, and they have been actively hiding him from us," Judds said.

The sheriff said Martinez has narrowly evaded capture more than once.

"We actually almost caught him a few weeks ago," Judd said. "While we're in the process of looking for him in a particular area, a deputy working traffic stops a car, and the guy jumps out and runs. It's him."

Judd said Martinez was just minutes ahead of deputies when he ran from them during a search Sunday night.

"We ask you in the community to say, 'How many more people does he have to murder before we give the sheriff's office some tips?'" Judd said.

The sheriff's office said Martinez has a tattoo on his left wrist that says "W7" and one on the left side of his neck that says "Natalia". Anyone with information on his location is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-888-400-TIPS (8477), submit a tip on their website, or download the free P3tips app on your smartphone or tablet.
