The concern is about Nine Eagles Drive near Mary Bryant Elementary School.

Margarita Moreno Delgado has walked her child there over the past five years.

“It’s good for the kids to walk to school. We like to walk. We get to see our neighbors,” Delgado said.

But the problems start when she exits her neighborhood and onto Nine Eagles Drive, where traffic has increased.

“The problem now is the traffic. It’s not safe anymore,” Delgado said.

Her main concern is how close the sidewalk is to the road, with no curb or any other barrier.

“You’re walking here, you’re hoping nobody is going to skid onto the sidewalk. If it rains, it’s easy to skid and hit somebody,” Delgado said.

She also says some other parents will drive onto the grass and sidewalk to drop off their kids right as other students are walking there.

She’d like to see something changed, suggesting a delineator on the side of the road or speed bumps.

“I’d like to see something here, like poles, so people don’t stop to drop their kids,” Delgado said.

Hillsborough County officials said Nine Eagles Drive was studied in 2022 and teams determined it should be fixed. It's now on the county’s safe routes to school list to be improved. However, at this time the project is not funded.

Officials also said the entrance to Bryant Elementary was re-engineered recently to help with traffic.

But parents still feel more needs to be done for safety.

“It would be good to have a long-term solution so kids can safely get to school,” Delgado said.
