PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A missing swimmer off the coast of Indian Shores has been found dead, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they located the body of 17-year-old William Zhang at 5:23 p.m. after a search that started earlier Wednesday morning.

According to detectives, Zhang was visiting Florida from Quebec, Canada, with his swim team. Zhang and several other swim team members were swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, conducting swimming drills. It was discovered Zhang did not return to shore at the end of the drills.

Per detectives, the swim coaches advised that they checked for riptides or hazards before the swimmers entered the water.

Officials say the incident is not suspicious in nature.
