CLEARWATER, Fla. — The new Coachman Park’s concert venue could be getting a name change, if approved by Clearwater City Council members Thursday night.

The Sound would become “The BayCare Sound” and all logos and signage would transfer to the new name within the next 60 days, according to a naming rights agreement between the city and BayCare.

BayCare already has the naming rights for the Phillies Spring Training facility on Old Coachman Road.

In 2022, the city hired an outside firm, The Superlative Group, to find potential sponsors.

The firm negotiated a 10-year contract with BayCare that starts at $475,000 in the first year and increases 3% annually, coming to a total of nearly $5.5 million.

Clearwater Assistant City Manager Michael Delk said that money will go into the city’s general fund and pay for park maintenance and repairs.

“There’s some debt service on it, some bonds that we’ll be paying back,” Delk said. “This was part of the financial plan since the beginning. It’s an $84 million park and it’s a big lift.”

Delk says the city also hired an additional maintenance team with a focus just on Coachman Park.

The massive renovation to the waterfront property was completed in June of 2023 and Delk says initial projections showed it would cost about $806,000 in maintenance.

“I think Clearwater has suffered for many decades with having a poor physical relationship with its waterfront,” Delk said. “A project like this one is very expensive but it really changed the entire complexion of the city when it comes to the waterfront.”

Now that the park is completed and concert venue up and running, Delk said the city just completed a revised purchase and sales agreement with Gotham out of New York City to build a 400-unit 27 story apartment building overlooking the park. A new hotel was also approved for the Harborview site, as well as spots for restaurants and retail.

“Similar to the things you’re seeing in downtown St. Pete and Tampa are arriving in Clearwater over the next few years,” Delk said.
