RIVERVIEW, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is currently responding to a large brush fire near a Mosaic plant in Riverview, along U.S. Highway 41.

A spokesperson with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says they are there is no immediate concern about materials on the Mosaic site, and that they are working closely with the company as firefighters work to put out the blaze.

Thick, black smoke that could be seen pluming from the fire earlier was from a high density plastic pipe that was burning, according to officials.

A hazmat team is standing by to decontaminate firefighters if needed, but they're confident there's no risk to the public.

There is currently no indication on how the fire began.

"The challenge right now is there's a lot of heat, and a lot of heat requires a lot of water. There's very little internal hydrants inside. So, we're having to work with our water tankers that carry up to 3,500 gallons of water per tanker," said HCFR public safety information chief Rob Herrin. "So, we do what's called a water shuttle where we move our tankers around and keep this water flow going. But just a principle of physics is the hotter the fire, the more water it requires to put out."

Officials add they're currently focused on sections of pipes that are burning and working to protect an area that is not.
