HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A longtime Hillsborough County resident says an intersection on Adamo Drive is dangerous, especially during rush hour.
Desiree Menendez says the left turn from Maydell Drive to Adamo Drive is tough to make in the Palm River area, just east of 50th Street.
“You’re basically taking your life into your hands and you have to do what you have to do,” Menendez said.
Her main concern is making the left during rush hour, when traffic is busy in both directions on Adamo Drive.
Because it’s an open intersection, drivers have to wait for both directions to clear when turning left.
“You to sit in the middle. And wait and pray,” Menendez said.
She says the wait causes traffic on northbound Maydell to back up.
It also gets very busy with the businesses nearby, plus Palm River Elementary school right down the road.
“Imagine what it’s like at 7 a.m. when it’s seven to eight cars trying to get through the median,” Menendez said. “All doing the exact same thing. Now add in the industrial vehicles and school buses.”
She worries about a serious crash happening there.
Spectrum News reached out to Florida Department of Transportation and Hillsborough Country intersections. Officials said they are getting information on the intersection.
Menendez feels a turning lane or light may make it safer.
“I don’t want to wake up at 5 a.m. and hear there was a fatality on Adamo and Maydell," Menendez said. "I wouldn’t be surprised."
