TAMPA — The Tampa Police Department is searching for a woman connected with an early-morning Amber Alert.
The alert was issued at about 1 a.m., Monday for a 9-year-old girl who they said was with 34-year-old Sylvia Pagan and 38-year-old Jovanni Steffani.
The girl was found safe at a Suwannee County hotel in north Central Florida. She was checked at a nearby hospital as a precaution but is OK.
A "missing and endangered alert" has been issued for Pagan.
Steffani was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police said he died.
Pagan was not with the girl and was not with Steffani, Tampa police said.
Pagan was last seen on Altman Street at about 10 a.m. Sunday. She is 5 feet 3 inches tall and 155 pounds.
Detectives say they are concerned for her well being.
"Our investigation is still very active in trying to locate Sylvia," Police Major Patrick Messmer said at a Monday afternoon news conference.
